Car Servicing

A car service is a mechanical test of a vehicle that tests that all components are performing effectively. This will help to prolong vehicle life, improve fuel economy and prevent against unexpected breakdowns. Car servicing is not a legal requirement, however, it is highly recommended as it gives you chance to monitor and look after parts of your vehicle which are susceptible to wear.

When Should I Have a Car Service?

You should always service your vehicle in accordance with your manufacturers’ recommended service intervals. Some vehicles may not feature this information in the service handbook, and in this case it is advised that you have a car service every 12 months, or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs soonest. For vehicles that frequently drive long distances, it is recommended that you also undertake interim servicing every 6 months or 6,000 miles.

It is easy to fall in to the trap of extending the time between servicing, but leaving it longer than these specified intervals may result in serious damage to the mechanical state of your vehicle and a large repair bill.

The Benefits of Car Servicing

Regularly servicing your car will help you to keep it in good condition and this will ultimately prolong its life. This is because if components of your vehicle are worn or damaged, a specialist should be able to spot it early, and this will help to prevent further and potentially expensive or irreparable damage and reduce your risk of breaking down.

Your fuel efficiency will also be improved through having your car serviced regularly. Keeping your engine healthy will ensure that all essential fluids can flow around the engine easily, and this reduces the energy your vehicle needs to run, ultimately reducing your fuel consumption.

Car Servicing Saves Money

Whilst car servicing may seem expensive initially, it is actually preserving the value of your vehicle as service history is important when it comes to selling your car.

In addition, a car service helps you to safeguard against potentially large repair bills.
